Where are you located?
Opportunity101 Education Consulting is based in Rockville, Maryland, which is located 15 miles (24 km) north of Washington, DC and 30 miles (48 km) southwest of Baltimore. Services are available remotely nationwide and travel to worksites can be negotiated as needed.
What services do you offer?
Opp101 can provide a variety of services to students and families with an emphasis on individual needs and goals. Available services include:
Long-term academic planning and preparation;
Support during the college admissions process;
Guidance on college selection with emphasis on programs that are the right fit for your student’s values and goals;
Guidance on college funding options, including support in applying for scholarships;
Support for students in preparing personal statements and admission essays;
Mentorship in preparing for the transition to college and guidance on selecting a major course of study.
I am passionate about promoting greater equity in education and I am committed to supporting students from marginalized groups, under-served communities, and first-generation students. How are services provided?
I serve as an independent contractor and offer flexibility on the scope and terms of our partnership based on your family’s needs and budget. Opp101 can provide short-term support on a specific project or I can offer mentorship and support on a long-term basis. Services are typically provided remotely, but on-site visits can be negotiated as needed.
What are your qualifications?
I have over 25 years of professional experience, which includes public safety, education, and grant management. I earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Sociology from The University of Tennessee - Knoxville with specializations in Criminology, Political Economy, and Social Justice. I also earned a Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Florida State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Police Administration from Eastern Kentucky University. I also possess graduate hours in clinical social work through the University of Tennessee. Scholarly interests include criminal justice ethics, restorative and transformative justice, social change, narrative analysis, and qualitative research methods.
I have over 15 years of experience as a professional trainer and college professor, experience that has provided in-depth knowledge on a wide range of topics that are of relevance to student success. My higher education experience includes advising and mentorship of students from widely diverse backgrounds.
Throughout my career, I have focused on developing my skills and expertise on topics including ethics, leadership, and social change. I am passionate about social impact and promoting more equitable access to educational opportunity. I am committed to acting with kindness, empathy, and integrity in all aspects of my personal and professional life. I believe in the power of collaboration and community to overcome challenges in pursuit of a better world.
